Starting a sale on line may seem like a straight forward task - mark all your products down and suddenly you've got a sale on you hands but what have you done to promote it? How will you let your existing customers and new visitors know?

This thread is all about promoting special offers, sales and unique selling points.

Please share your tips, hints and experiences of promotions and unique selling points which may be useful to other SiteBuilder's

Christmas is 26 days away, it's not to late to make the most of your eCommerce website

Here are the 12 SiteBuilder eCommerce Tips for Christmas, Ho Ho Ho!

  1. Use last year’s sales to predict visit peaks and schedule time to update your site ready for the traffic.

  2. Position your best selling items prominently on your website; make it easy for your customers to shop.

  3. If you’re running special offers stagger them, give your customers a reason to come back.

  4. Run a Pre Christmas sale to get rid of some of your older stock or slow sellers.

  5. Contact existing customers with a mail shot of special Christmas offers and promotions.

  6. Give your website a Christmas theme, add some holly, snowflakes just a little Christmas spirit.

  7. Look at your basket offers ‘Free delivery’ and ‘% discounts’ can reduce the basket abandonment rates.

  8. Ensure your last delivery date ‘in time for Christmas’ is clearly stated on your website.

  9. Check your returns policy is up to date, does it need extending over the Christmas period?

  10. How can your customers contact you? Make your customer support information available across your website.

  11. Remember if anything does go wrong with an order or a courier, contact the customer. It’s better to be completely upfront than blamed for ruining someone’s Christmas.

  12. Think ahead and send your valued customers a Christmas card or Ecard with a Special offer for the New Year enclosed. Give them a reason to come back.
