EU Cookie Law
26/Apr/12 3:37 PM

On May 26th 2011 a new EU originated law came into effect that requires website owners to make changes to their sites the legislation states websites have to get permission from users before storing the cookies on their computers.

Although the cookie law came in last year, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has given website owners a year to implement the rules. The deadline is 26th May 2012.

If you run a website, it will almost certainly use cookies. Using Google Analytics and Webmaster tools to monitor visitor stats is the most common cookie.

SiteBuilder users will receive an email to explain what actions they can take ,you can also check back in the forum for the latest updates.

Updating your SiteBuilder Website
30/Apr/12 10:20 AM

If you already have a SiteBuilderDIY or Bespoke website we will automatically update your website with the new 'Privacy and Cookie Policy' on May 1st.

This will appear in the Legal Pack which already exists on your website. The 'Privacy Policy' will become the 'Privacy and Cookie Policy'.

If you would like to make any ammendments to the new 'Privacy and Cookie Policy' based on your content we will add the new policy in to the Legal Pack in editing mode. You will need to re-publish your website for the new policy to go live and be seen by your customers.

If however you are happy to leave the wording as is, it is simply a case of pressing the re-publish button.

If you don't currently use the Legal Pack but would like to add the 'Privacy and Cookies' policy to your website this can be located in the Legal tab. The Legal tab is made available during 'Edit Mode' within SiteBuilders Content Management System.

Please ensure you have ticked the 'add link to site' check box and remember to re-publish your website.

A new 'Privacy and Cookies' link will appear in the footer of your website.
